The Ministry of Finance has recorded a steady increase in the number of taxpayers in the mineral and coal mining subsector over the past five years, with an average annual growth rate of approximately 3%. As stated by Bimo Wijayanto, Director General of Taxation (DGT), in an official release cited on Sunday (7 December 2025), the number of taxpayers rose from 6,321 in 2021 to 7,128 in 2025. Tax revenue from the metal mineral mining sector has surged more than tenfold, jumping from Rp4 trillion in 2016 to Rp45 trillion in 2024. In contrast, coal mining tax revenue has fluctuated in tandem with global commodity price movements, reflecting the sector’s sensitivity to international market dynamics.
