Jakarta, TAMBANG – Mining industry players have expressed understanding of the South Sumatra Provincial Government’s policy banning coal transport trucks from using public roads. Gita Mahyarani, Executive Director of the Indonesian Coal Mining Association (APBI), stated that in principle, industry players support traffic management and infrastructure protection policies. She noted the province is evaluating the policy’s implementation from January 1 to February 1, 2026, which will serve as the basis for subsequent mechanisms including possible dispensations.

During the evaluation period, Gita emphasized the need to consider impacts on state revenue and local own-source revenue (PAD). Disrupted coal transport and sales could reduce the mining sector’s overall contribution. While no official policy requires production halts, some companies cannot transport or sell coal due to constraints, forcing them to stockpile coal in large quantities.
