行业及政府消息人士称，印度4月黄金进口量预计降至约15公吨，0026;近30年低位。 此次进口骤降主因是银行遭遇意外税费追缴，进口业务全面停滞。
印度金银珠宝协会秘书长苏拉德拉・梅赫塔表示，自印度海关开始对银行进口精炼黄金征收3%综合商品及服务税（IGST）后，进口印度大部分精炼黄金的银行已暂停发货。此前，政府迟迟未发布授权银行进口金银的正式政令，为此次征税埋下伏笔。
一位不愿具名的政府官员透露，本月银行未从海关清关任何黄金，仅印度国际金银交易所（IIBX）放行少量黄金。印度税务部门暂未就此次征税置评。
