外电5月11日消息，在美国施压背景下，加拿大矿企谢里特国际公司（Sherritt International Corp.）决定停止其在古巴的镍矿业务。据悉，该公司在巴哈马群岛通过持股Energas SA三分之一股份，还涉及电力、石油及天然气生产业务。
1990年代以来，谢里特国际公司持续在古巴开展经营活动，且多年来一直无视美国对古巴实施的禁运政策。哈瓦那大学古巴经济研究中心前主任Omar Everleny Perez分析指出，此次镍矿业务..古巴失去了其在阿尔伯塔省的炼油业务份额以及谢里特在巴哈马群岛合作经营的金属商业化业务的收入。
