中国宝武与力拓合作，成功采用力拓西澳皮尔巴拉混合铁矿石完成造球与竖炉工业试验，此为双方降低钢铁生产排放研究的合作内容之一。试验于宝钢股份湛江钢铁基地开展，采用氢基竖炉技术生产直接还原铁（DRI），球团矿中含三分之一皮尔巴拉混合矿，DRI已成功用于工业规模转炉炼钢及小型电熔分炉试验。
