美国在7月1日美墨加协定（USMCA）强制联合审查后，拒绝以现有形式续签该协定。随着三国进入年度审查期，232条款下的钢铁和铝关税将继续保留。
美国贸易代表办公室（USTR）宣布：“美墨加三国于7月1日举行线上会议，讨论协定的实施情况。”美国贸易代表杰米森·格里尔表示：“美国不同意以现有形式续签美墨加协定。因此，该协定未获续签。”
不过，这一决定并不等同于退出。任何国家可提前六个月通知退出协定，但在未决问题得到解决或协定终止前，美墨加协定仍将有效，符合协定原产地规则的商品关税豁免也继续适用。根据审查机制，该协定现已进入年度审查周期，若三国政府未能达成新的延期协议，协定将于2036年到期。
