据路透社报道，南非政府宣布允许私营企业在其货运铁路网络运营列车，旨在提升运营效率。此前，国有物流公司Transnet因设备短缺及维护积压，难以满足不断增长的运输需求。

Transnet负责南非货运铁路与港口服务，近年来因电缆盗窃与破坏活动频发，致使设备短缺和维护延误情况加剧，故而政府决定引入私营部门。

交通部长芭芭拉·克里西称，25家申请进入货运铁路网络的运营公司中，11家符合要求，将进入下一阶段谈判与合同签订环节，但未透露具体公司名称。

南非物流公司Grindrod表示已获进入Transnet网络的准入资格。克里西对媒体表示，这些公司并非分流Transnet货运业务，而是在现有基础上增加运力。
